ABOUT US

Isithumba Community Development Movement (ICDM) is a community-based youth driven non-profit organisation founded in 2009. This organisation became a registred entity in 2014. The organisation is operating from Isithumba village set in the majestic valley of 1000 Hills. Isithumba is one of the 11 traditional Zulu villages constituting the area of greater KwaXimba where the organisation does most of its work.

The idea of this organisation was conceived after observing the socio-economic, cultural and education circumstances of these 11 villages. The founding members saw it as their responsibility to establish an organisation that would uplift and empower the youth of these communities through comprehensive and inclusive sports, cultural and educational programmes. Our programmes target youth in schools and general youth in the community that are idle and likely to be exposed to risks of substance abuse and HIV/AIDS.

We are driven by the passion to develop youth through sporting and cultural activities.

Purpose

Our purpose is to bring youth empowerment through sports and mass participation in the area of Isithumba and kwa-ximba.

  • Youth qualification-offering the youth of the targeted area to go on trainings with the stakeholders.

  • Youth exchange-giving the youth a chance to take part in the different sister city exchange programs.

  • Language and communication-skills will provide the youth an opportunity to learn other languages through the participation of volunteers from outside countries in our area i.e English, German and more.

This initiative allows the youth of the area to teach the visitors the Zulu language and by doing so we ensure that cultural exchange is archived.

Goals

We are an organisation that strives to keep its local roots and provides a platform for our youth from rural areas, an opportunity to shape their future. We are preparing the youth to be mentally prepared to run such initiatives in the next five years.

Our primary objectives are to uplift and empower youth from academically and economically disadvantaged sectors of our communities. We achieve this through implementation of sports, cultural and education related programmes.
